Let's Make Tennis & Padel in Kent Greener!
This Sustainability Day, Kent Tennis is encouraging tennis and padel clubs and venues across the county to take action towards a greener, more sustainable future. With sustainability grants available to support environmentally friendly improvements, even the smallest changes can make a meaningful difference.
Tennis and padel bring people together, promote healthy lifestyles and strengthen our communities. But like many sports, they also have an environmental impact, from energy and water consumption to equipment waste and single-use plastics.
The good news? There are plenty of simple, practical ways to reduce that impact, and every club and venue has an opportunity to play its part.
Even Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference
Becoming more sustainable doesn't necessarily mean making expensive changes or completely transforming how your club operates. Sometimes, it's the smallest improvements that can have a lasting impact.
Here are just a few ways tennis and padel venues can become more environmentally friendly:
● Tennis ball recycling: Give used tennis balls a second life by introducing recycling or reuse schemes. By simply putting a labelled collection point at your venue and advertising it to members, you can help to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
● Water refill stations: Install water fountains and encourage players and visitors to bring reusable bottles by installing drinking water fountains, reducing reliance on single-use plastics.
● Energy-efficient lighting: Switching to LED floodlights and installing timers and sensors can help reduce electricity consumption and running costs.
● Rainwater collection: Make better use of natural resources by collecting rainwater for watering plants, maintaining landscaped areas and other suitable uses.
● Wildlife-friendly spaces: Create welcoming habitats for local wildlife by planting native flowers, introducing pollinator-friendly areas or reducing unnecessary mowing.
● Smart heating systems: Improve energy efficiency by installing smart thermostats and heating controls that help reduce unnecessary energy consumption.
● Saving water: by putting blocks into toilet water cistern.
These are just a few examples. Every venue is different, and the best sustainability solutions will depend on its facilities, resources and needs.

Introducing the Kent Tennis Sustainability Toolkit
To help clubs and venues turn their sustainability ambitions into action, we're delighted to introduce the Kent Tennis Sustainability Toolkit!
Designed to support every tennis and padel club and venue across Kent, this practical resource provides guidance, ideas and actionable steps towards a greener future.
Aligned with the Kent Tennis Sustainability Strategy 2026–2030 and the LTA's three core sustainability pillars, the toolkit helps clubs identify opportunities to reduce their environmental impact and make meaningful, lasting improvements.
The toolkit is designed to be a working guide rather than a one-off exercise. Clubs are encouraged to:
● Explore each section to discover practical sustainability ideas.
● Complete the checklists to identify opportunities for improvement.
● Track their progress and celebrate the positive changes they've made.

Supporting Clubs Through Sustainability Grants
At Kent Tennis, we recognise that clubs and venues want to make environmentally responsible choices, but finding the resources to implement improvements can sometimes be challenging.
That's why Kent Tennis offers sustainability grants to help clubs and venues introduce greener solutions and reduce their environmental impact.
Sustainability isn't just about protecting the environment. Many improvements can also bring long-term benefits to clubs, including lower energy costs, reduced waste and more welcoming facilities for members and visitors.
A Greener Future Starts With All of Us
We believe that creating a more sustainable tennis and padel community is something we can achieve together.
You don't need to implement every solution at once. Start by identifying one area where your club could make a positive change. Perhaps that's reducing plastic waste, reviewing energy consumption or introducing a simple recycling scheme.
Once that first step is in place, you can build on your progress and inspire others to do the same.
Imagine the collective impact if every tennis and padel venue across Kent introduced just one new sustainable practice!
Small changes, multiplied across our tennis and padel community, can make a big difference.
Take the First Step Towards a Greener Venue!
