It’s been a number of years since we saw both the Kent boys and girls teams in the Division 1 finals, so well done to both for getting there/staying there. We knew that it would be a tough weekend for both teams, with very strong opposition., however, we had two solid teams, with plenty of players who could compete at the highest level.

Having spent the past few years in Division 2B at Bromley Tennis Centre, it was lovely for these girls and the Captains to get away and experience the real County Cup, although I doubt anyone was looking forward to the drive to Sheffield. The girls competed hard and fought bravely, losing some narrow matches, which on another day could have seen them do enough to come through with more wins. The hardest one to take was a 5-4 loss to Surrey (Runners Up), after being 4-2 up. The girls were unfortunately relegated, but with such a young team, I’m sure will fight hard to get backup into Div 1 again next year.

As reigning champions of the past two years with almost the same squad, this new team were going to give their best effort to be competitive over the weekend and see what damage they could do. They certainly competed hard and weren’t far off finishing as Runners Up. However, the boys finished up in 3rd place and unfortunately were relegated.

Our 9U girls team fought really hard beating Essex 4-2 and Sussex 6-0 showing great strength, determination and teamwork. Unfortunately, they faced tough opposition against Middlesex and after giving it their all, they lost 1-5, finishing second place in their qualifying box – well done girls.

Our 9U boys had an amazing opening match against Essex, where both counties shared 2 singles and 1 doubles win, leaving the match tied at 3-3, all to play for in the shootout! What a shootout it was, Kent were 4-8 down and then 7-9 down facing defeat before they went on to win the next 4 points and the shootout 11-9, securing a 4-3 win – what a start! Next up were Middlesex (who were favourites to win the box) who they beat 4-2, followed by beating Sussex 4-2 finishing winners of their box, qualifying for the National Finals.

Our 9U Boys won the South National Finals at the weekend, winning all 4 of their matches and lifting the trophy for the 2nd time in 4yrs! The team came through stiff opposition from Surrey, Hertfordshire, Avon and Berkshire. The most notable wins coming in the form of a shoot-out win against Surrey and a 4-2 win against Hertfordshire. Well done to everyone.

Result - Group I Champions
Beat Surrey 9-1, Beat Sussex 10-0,

Beat Middlesex 8-2

The event for the South East counties was held at Bromley Tennis Centre and saw some superb tennis. The Kent boys finished Champions, after beating all three counties in their group, losing just 3 rubbers. When any Kent junior side beat all their South-East counterparts on the same day, it takes something special. Well done to the 8U boys for winning their regional county cup.

In a closely fought girls group, we emerged Runners Up, what a performance from this group of girls!
